Bus Falls 150 Feet into Gorge in Uttarakhand: 15 Feared Dead, 42 Passengers Onboard; Police and SDRF Present at Scene
On Monday morning, a passenger bus plunged into a gorge in Almora, Uttarakhand, resulting in the tragic loss of 15 lives, with over 25 passengers injured. The accident took place near Kupi in Almora. According to reports, there were 42 passengers on board. Police have indicated that the death toll could rise further.
Disaster Management Officer Vineet Pal stated that rescue teams from Salt and Ranikhet have been dispatched to the site. Initial reports confirm 15 fatalities, but the exact count will only be determined after the rescue operations conclude. Meanwhile, SDM Salt Sanjay Kumar mentioned that over 5 people have been confirmed dead so far.
Bus Carrying Local Passengers Crashes into Gorge Near Almora, Uttarakhand
The bus, traveling from Kanth to Ramnagar, was carrying mostly local passengers. Near Kupi, the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to plummet approximately 150 feet into a deep gorge. The bus sustained severe damage in the accident.
Old Bus Involved in Almora Accident, Rescue Operations Underway
According to police, the bus belonged to Garhwal Motors and was reportedly quite old, as revealed in the initial investigation. Authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the accident, with the primary focus on rescuing the injured.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his sorrow over the incident and directed officials to expedite relief and rescue efforts.
Multiple Passengers Thrown from Bus in Almora Gorge Accident, Rescue Teams on Site
As the bus fell into the gorge, several passengers were ejected from the vehicle, landing at a distance from the crash site. Almora’s SP has arrived at the scene, and additional police forces have been dispatched from Nainital. An SDRF team has also reached the location to assist in the ongoing rescue efforts.
