Alert! AI Interceptors to Issue Memos at Unsigned Traffic Spots: A New Initiative in Ahmedabad

Starting in the new year, Ahmedabad Traffic Police will deploy Artificial Intelligence (AI) Interceptor Vans to enhance traffic management. These vans will be stationed at locations with heavy traffic, congestion, or areas without traffic signals.

They will patrol these zones to help regulate traffic and issue e-memos to drivers violating any of the 14 designated traffic rules. Five such AI-enabled interceptor vans have already been deployed and are operational.

Five AI-Enabled Vans Deployed for Traffic Rule Enforcement in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad Traffic Police have adopted a modern approach to ensure compliance with traffic regulations through AI-powered camera vans. Five such vans have been deployed for patrolling, specifically targeting drivers violating traffic rules. These vans can detect up to 14 types of traffic violations, and any violators will receive an e-memo sent directly to their residence.

Traffic Violations to Be Monitored with E-Memos for Better Safety in the City

To reduce traffic issues and enhance road safety, Ahmedabad Traffic Police are now equipped to take strict action against violators through e-memos. These actions target violations such as:

  • Not wearing a helmet
  • Overspeeding
  • Crossing stop lines
  • Entering BRTS lanes
  • Missing number plates
  • Running traffic signals
  • Triple riding on two-wheelers
  • Using a mobile phone while driving
  • Driving on the wrong side
  • Violating no-parking zones
  • Improper parking
  • Not wearing a seatbelt
  • Blocking free left turns
  • Using dark film on car windows

Five AI-enabled interceptor vans will monitor these violations, and e-memos will be sent directly to the registered address of the vehicle owners.

AI-Enabled Interceptor Vans to Cover Areas Lacking Effective CCTV in Ahmedabad

Currently, Ahmedabad has CCTV cameras installed at 212 traffic circles. However, these cameras are not effective enough in certain locations, such as Shivranjani, Shyamal, Sola, Gota, Iscon, and Pakwan circles, as well as in narrow lanes and congested streets.

To address this, AI-equipped interceptor vans will be deployed in these areas for more efficient traffic monitoring and enforcement.

How AI-Enabled Cameras Will Function in Traffic Enforcement

According to police sources, the city traffic police’s interceptor vans, equipped with AI intelligence cameras, will not only patrol but also capture images of vehicles causing traffic issues and automatically generate e-memos.

A program has been developed in coordination with the traffic police and RTO, integrating a database of all vehicles. When a vehicle violates a rule, the AI interceptor will capture its number plate, send the photo to the control room server, and instantly issue an e-memo based on the vehicle’s details.

Traffic Police Equipped with Five AI-Enabled Interceptor Vans for Enhanced Patrolling

According to sources, the city traffic police have five interceptor vans equipped with cameras. These interceptor vans are used for patrolling and can quickly reach locations with traffic congestion. By utilizing artificial intelligence, these vans will help streamline traffic on major roads and inner streets experiencing heavy congestion.

Additionally, starting this year, the process of issuing e-memos to drivers causing traffic jams will be fully implemented.
