West Indies’ experienced cricketer Dwayne Bravo has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. The all-time highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday night, “My mind wants to play, but my body is not cooperating. I do not want to put myself in a position to disappoint my fellow players, fans, and the team. Therefore, I wholeheartedly announce my retirement.”

The 40-year-old cricketer had mentioned before the season that this would be his last season, but due to injury, he had to announce his retirement in the middle of the Caribbean Premier League. Bravo bid farewell to the IPL last year. He has taken 631 wickets in 582 T20 matches, making him the highest wicket-taker in this format.

In his post, Bravo wrote, “As a professional cricketer for 21 years, it has been an incredible journey filled with many ups and downs.” He continued, “The most important thing is that I was able to fulfill my dreams because I always gave my 100%. Although I want to keep going, it is now time to face reality.”

Bravo retired from international cricket three years ago in 2021, but he has been playing franchise cricket while also coaching. Over the past 12 months, he has worked with the IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings. For the 2024 T20 World Cup, he has also been appointed as the bowling consultant for Afghanistan.
