Urmila joined the Congress party on March 27, 2019. She contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from North Mumbai but lost and resigned from Congress in September 2019. At that time, she alleged that there was dirty politics within the Congress. In December 2020, Urmila joined Shiv Sena in the presence of Uddhav Thackeray.
