On the Rajkot-Gondal Highway, the driver, Hiteshbhai Parmar, was transporting students from SGVP Gurukul in Rebad to Rajkot city. The driver arrived in the Kothariya area in the morning to pick up students from grades 1 to 12 for school. A guardian, arriving to drop off a student at the bus, noticed that the driver was heavily intoxicated. This led to the police being called and the school administrators being notified. The guardians expressed their outrage, as an accident caused by the drunk driver could have put the students’ lives at risk. The police apprehended the driver, and the school administrators arranged for a replacement bus to continue the service.

Driver Abuses Students While Intoxicated

Sumit Vegadiya, a parent, reported that he sends his son to Rebad School. Today, after his child boarded the school bus, he received a call informing him that the driver was drunk and abusing the students. He immediately rushed to the scene and found the driver in an intoxicated state.

Driver Suspended Immediately

When contacted, Principal Jigneshbhai Thakkar of SGVP Gurukul stated that the driver, Hiteshbhai Parmar, had been associated with the institution for the past three years. However, this is the first time any such behavior of intoxication has been reported from him.

Due to the driver’s current state of intoxication, he has been immediately suspended, and a police complaint has been filed. When questioned about the school being open on a public holiday, the principal explained that due to recent heavy rains, schools had been closed, resulting in missed classes. Therefore, students were called in today to continue their studies.
