Moeen Ali Retires from International Cricket: Part of 2019 & 2022 World Champion Teams
English all-rounder Moeen Ali has retired from all formats of international cricket. The 37-year-old all-rounder made this decision after not being selected for the English team in the white-ball series against Australia.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, the 37-year-old Moeen, who won the ODI World Cup in 2019 and the T20 World Cup in 2022, said, “I am 37 years old and have not been selected for the upcoming series against Australia this month. I have played a lot of cricket for England. Now, it’s time for the next generation, as I was told. I felt it was the right time. I have done my job.”
Moeen played his last international match in the T20 World Cup 2024. In the semifinal match against India in Guyana, the English team faced defeat.
Returned from retirement a year ago, joined the Ashes team Moeen Ali had announced his retirement in 2021. Two years later, in 2023, he came out of retirement for Test cricket. He was then included in the English team for the Ashes series, replacing Jack Leach.
Moeen made this decision after discussions with Test captain Ben Stokes, England’s head coach Brendon McCullum, and England Cricket’s Managing Director Robert Key.
Took 366 Wickets and Scored 6,678 Runs
Moeen Ali made his international debut in 2014. As an all-rounder, he played 68 Tests, 138 ODIs, and 92 T20 international matches. For England, across all formats, he scored 6,678 runs, including 8 centuries and 28 half-centuries, and took 366 wickets.
