Inflation Hits Early: Commercial Cylinder Price Up by ₹39, Fuel Price Drop Could Lower Flight Costs—Explore 5 Key Changes This Month
Starting from September 1, 2024, the price of a 19-kilogram commercial gas cylinder has increased by ₹39. Following a similar trend from August, oil marketing companies have once again raised the prices of LPG cylinders in September. Additionally, new telecom regulations have been implemented from today, aimed at curbing fake calls and messages.
On the other hand, due to a reduction in aviation fuel prices, air travel might become cheaper. Oil marketing companies have decreased the price of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) by ₹4,567 per kiloliter (1,000 liters). Meanwhile, in Rajasthan, a gas cylinder will now cost ₹450.

1. Commercial Gas Cylinder Price Hike: ₹39 Increase, No Change in Domestic Cylinder Prices
From today, the price of a 19-kilogram commercial gas cylinder has increased by ₹39. In Delhi, the new price is ₹1,691.50, up from ₹1,652.50. In Kolkata, the price has risen by ₹38, making the new cost ₹1,802.50, compared to the previous ₹1,764.50.
In Mumbai, the cylinder price has gone up by ₹39, from ₹1,605 to ₹1,644. In Chennai, it is now available at ₹1,855. However, the price of the 14.2-kilogram domestic gas cylinder remains unchanged at ₹803 in Delhi and ₹802.50 in Mumbai.
2. ATF Prices Drop by ₹4,567.76: Air Travel May Become Cheaper
Oil marketing companies have reduced Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices in major cities, which could lead to cheaper air travel. According to the Indian Oil website, in Delhi, ATF prices have decreased by ₹4,495.50, bringing the cost down to ₹93,480.22 per kiloliter (1,000 liters). In Chennai, ATF prices have dropped by ₹4,567.76, making the new price ₹97,064.32 per kiloliter.
In Kolkata, ATF, which was previously available at ₹100,520.88 per kiloliter, is now cheaper by ₹4,222.44, bringing the price to ₹96,298.44. In Mumbai, the price of ATF has decreased by ₹4,217.56, with the new price being ₹87,432.78 per kiloliter.
3. Telecom Regulations Revised: Measures to Curb Fake Calls and Messages
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has implemented changes to telecom regulations starting today to combat fraudulent calls and SMS scams related to cybercriminal activities. TRAI has issued guidelines to telecom companies like Jio and Airtel.
These guidelines require telecom companies to shift telemarketing calls and business messaging, particularly those starting with the 140 mobile number series, to a blockchain-based Distributed Ledger Technology platform by September 30, 2024. With these strict guidelines from TRAI, it is expected that people will experience relief from fake calls and messages.
4. ₹450 Gas Cylinder in Rajasthan: Benefits for NFSA-Linked Families
In Rajasthan, families covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) will now receive gas cylinders for ₹450. The state government announced in its budget that LPG cylinders would be provided at this subsidized rate to families with BPL and Ujjwala connections linked to NFSA. This decision is expected to benefit approximately 6.8 million families.
Currently, the government is offering LPG cylinders at the subsidized rate of ₹450 to nearly 7 million families with Ujjwala connections and BPL status. Rajasthan’s NFSA list currently includes over 10.7 million families. Out of these, around 3.7 million families are also included in the BPL or Ujjwala connection holders’ list.
5. Free Aadhaar Update Extended: Deadline Now September 14, After Which ₹50 Charge Applies
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline for free Aadhaar card updates until September 14, 2024. If your Aadhaar card is more than 10 years old, you can update it online for free until this date. After September 14, a service charge of ₹50 will be applied for updates. The free update service is available only online.
6. New UPI and RuPay Card Rules: Transaction Fees Will Not Be Deducted from Reward Points
According to new regulations from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), transaction fees for RuPay credit cards and UPI transactions will no longer be deducted from your RuPay reward points. Banks have been informed to implement this rule.
No Change in Petrol and Diesel Prices: Petrol Available at ₹94.72 Per Liter in Delhi
As of today, September 1, there has been no change in the prices of petrol and diesel. Currently, in Delhi, petrol is available at ₹94.72 per liter, while diesel is priced at ₹87.62 per liter. In Mumbai, petrol is available at ₹103.44 per liter, and diesel at ₹89.97 per liter.
