Zaheer Khan Joins Lucknow Super Giants as Mentor, Owner Confirms
Zaheer Khan Appointed Mentor of Lucknow Super Giants
Former Indian cricketer Zaheer Khan has been appointed as the mentor for IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The announcement was made by LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka during a press conference in Kolkata. Goenka also praised the team’s captain, KL Rahul, stating that Rahul is like a member of the family.
Prior to Zaheer, Gautam Gambhir served as the mentor for LSG during the 2022 season. After Gambhir took up a mentoring role with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023, the position at LSG became vacant. Currently, the team is also without a bowling coach, as their previous coach, Morne Morkel, has joined the Indian national team. Zaheer Khan is expected to take on dual roles, serving both as a mentor and possibly as the bowling coach. Zaheer previously served as the Director of Cricket for Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2022.
Zaheer’s IPL Experience
As a player, Zaheer Khan brings with him the experience of 100 IPL matches. He has played for teams like Delhi, Bangalore, and Mumbai, and has taken 102 wickets in the league. His last IPL appearance was in 2017.
Why Zaheer is the Right Choice for LSG
- The vacant bowling coach position at LSG means that the team’s fast bowlers can greatly benefit from Zaheer Khan’s vast experience.
- Having served as the Director of Cricket for Mumbai Indians, Zaheer brings valuable insights that the management at LSG is eager to utilize.
- Zaheer is expected to contribute to talent scouting and player development programs for LSG. He will play a crucial role in both retaining key players and making strategic decisions during auctions.
Working with LSG’s Coaching Staff
Zaheer Khan will join the current LSG coaching staff, which includes Head Coach Justin Langer, Assistant Coaches Lance Klusener, and Adam Voges.
