Gujarat Increases Contract Doctors’ Salary by ₹35,000, Now ₹1.30 Lakh
Gujarat Government Enhances Salaries and Incentives for Contract-Based Specialist Doctors
In a significant move to strengthen rural healthcare services, the Gujarat government has made a crucial decision regarding specialist doctors working on a contract basis at Community Health Centers (CHCs), Sub-District, and District Hospitals. Alongside this, the state has also decided to prohibit these contract-based doctors from engaging in private practice. As a part of this initiative, substantial increments in monthly salaries have been introduced for doctors providing dedicated service without private practice.
Salary Hike and Surgical Incentives Announced
Contract-based specialist doctors who were previously earning a monthly salary of ₹95,000 will now receive ₹1,30,000, reflecting a nearly 37% increase. Additionally, doctors involved in surgeries will be eligible for incentives ranging from ₹300 to ₹2,000 per surgery, depending on the nature of the procedure, be it major or minor.
Anesthetists to Receive 50% of Incentive Per Surgery
In a move to further support the medical community, anesthetists working on a contract basis will receive 50% of the incentive amount per surgery. Other specialists, apart from surgical experts, will be eligible for incentives based on existing Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) guidelines. According to the government’s resolution, general surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, and ENT-related major surgeries will attract incentives of ₹2,000 and ₹1,250, while minor surgeries will be compensated at ₹600 and ₹300 per procedure.
This initiative is aimed at bolstering the services of specialist doctors at government healthcare facilities, thereby encouraging more professionals to join and remain in the public health sector.
