Zaheer Khan Could Become Mentor for This IPL Team, Talks with Franchise Underway
Former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan may be given a significant responsibility with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The Lucknow franchise is currently in search of a mentor, and discussions are ongoing with Zaheer Khan.
If all goes well, Zaheer Khan could become the mentor for LSG. Since 2023, this position has been vacant for the Lucknow Super Giants. Gautam Gambhir served as the team’s mentor for two years but ended his association with LSG before the 2024 season and joined the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) group.
Lucknow Super Giants Aiming to Fill Two Key Positions Before IPL 2025
The Lucknow Super Giants need to fill two major vacancies before IPL 2025: a mentor and a bowling coach. With South African great Morne Morkel becoming the head coach of Team India, the position of bowling coach with LSG has also become available.
Discussions are ongoing between Zaheer Khan and LSG, and he could potentially take on dual roles with the team. According to IPL sources, Zaheer is being considered for the mentor role previously held by Gautam Gambhir, and he could also provide his expertise to LSG’s bowlers.
Zaheer Khan’s Role in IPL: From Bowling Coach Speculations to Mentor Possibility
Zaheer Khan, who has experience in 92 Tests, 200 ODIs, 17 T20s, and 100 IPL matches, was initially considered for the position of the new bowling coach for Team India. Several reports suggested that Zaheer could join the new setup as the bowling coach alongside head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Known for his guidance to young and emerging bowlers, Zaheer was highly favored for this role. However, due to Morne Morkel’s appointment, Zaheer did not secure this position. Instead, there is a possibility of seeing him in an IPL mentor role. Zaheer Khan has long been a part of the Mumbai Indians setup.
