Indian Man in US Sentenced to 12 Years for Attempting Sexual Relations with a Minor
An Indian national in the United States has been found guilty of attempting to engage in physical relations with a 13-year-old girl by enticing her. On Thursday, a U.S. federal court sentenced him to 12 years in prison.
The accused was communicating with the 13-year-old girl on social media. During this period, he expressed his desire to engage in physical relations with her multiple times. He also sent her many obscene pictures. However, this profile was actually operated by an undercover American detective.
The Accused Was Living in the U.S. on a Student Visa
The 32-year-old accused, named Upendra Aduru, was living in the U.S. on a student visa. U.S. Attorney Eric Olshan stated that after completing his sentence, he has also been ordered to be under supervision for 10 years.
The case dates from September 2022 to October 2022. During the conversation, Aduru repeatedly expressed his desire to meet the girl. Eventually, they decided to meet at a park in Milpark Town.
When the accused arrived at the park, the police arrested him. His phone was also seized. During the phone investigation, the police found all the messages and pornographic material of the accused.
Action Under the Save Childhood Initiative
The U.S. State Department said this case came to light under Project ‘Safe Childhood.’ This project was initiated in May 2006 to curb the increasing cases of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The Justice Department implemented it nationwide.

In the United States, a 40-year-old Indian citizen, Banmeet Singh, was found guilty of selling drugs on the dark web. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison. Additionally, an order was issued to confiscate ₹1.25 thousand crores from him.
Banmeet is a resident of Haldwani. He was arrested in London in April 2019. After this, he was extradited to the U.S. in March 2023. He admitted his guilt during court proceedings in January this year.
