In a tragic incident of illicit alcohol consumption in Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurichi district, the death toll has risen to 34, with 60 individuals hospitalized. District Collector MS Prashant confirmed this information, noting that the death toll could potentially increase further. Chief Minister MK Stalin has ordered a CB-CID investigation into the matter.
District Collector Shravan Kumar Jatavath has been transferred, and MS Prashant appointed as the new Collector of Kallakurichi district. SP S. Meenakshi Sundaram has been suspended, and Rajat Chaturvedi appointed as the new Police Superintendent. Several police officers have also been suspended in connection with the incident.
CM MK Stalin Condemns Kallakurichi Tragedy, Promises Swift Action
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has expressed sorrow over the incident in a tweet. He wrote, “I am deeply saddened and shocked to hear about the deaths caused by consuming adulterated liquor in Kallakurichi. Those involved in the crime have been arrested.
Action has also been taken against officials who failed in their duties.” He assured immediate action if the public informs about those involved in such crimes to prevent them. He emphasized on stringent measures to curb such crimes that harm society.
CM Stalin Orders CB-CID Probe After 10 Die from Alcohol Consumption in Kallakurichi
Following the deaths of 10 individuals due to alcohol consumption in Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin has ordered a CB-CID investigation into the incident. District Collector Shravan Kumar Jatavath has been transferred, and MS Prashant appointed as the new Collector of Kallakurichi district.
