The Aadhaar card is an essential document required for various government schemes, including enrollment in schools for children. It contains vital information such as your name, address, and phone number, along with biometric data like fingerprints. 

In situations where Aadhaar falls into the wrong hands, it can lead to serious consequences. In such cases, if you fear misuse of your Aadhaar, you can easily check its usage online from the comfort of your home. 

The official website of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) allows you to verify when and where your Aadhaar number has been used, and this service is provided free of charge.

Verifying Aadhaar Usage Online

1. Begin by visiting the Aadhaar website or follow this link: uidai.gov.in.

2. Under Aadhaar Services, you’ll find the option for Aadhaar Authentication History, click on it.

3. Here, you’ll need to enter your Aadhaar number and security code, then click on “Generate OTP”.

4. Next, you’ll receive an OTP on your registered mobile number linked with Aadhaar. Enter this OTP and click on submit.

5. Subsequently, you’ll be prompted to fill in authentication type, date range, and OTP verification along with other required details. (Note: You can view data up to the last 6 months.)

6. Upon verifying the OTP, you’ll see a list displaying information on when and where your Aadhaar has been used in the last 6 months.

Reporting Aadhaar Misuse

If upon reviewing the records, you suspect misuse of your Aadhaar card, you can lodge a complaint immediately. You can do so by calling the toll-free number 1947 or emailing at help@uidai.gov.in. 

Additionally, you have the option to file a complaint online at uidai.gov.in/file-complaint. Take prompt action to report any instances of Aadhaar misuse for appropriate resolution.

Handling Aadhaar Post Demise

After a person’s demise, there’s no provision to cancel their Aadhaar card. In such cases, it’s the responsibility of the deceased person’s family to ensure the Aadhaar card is securely kept to prevent its misuse. 

If the deceased individual was availing any benefits or subsidies through Aadhaar, the concerned department should be informed about the death. Their name will then be removed from the scheme.
