Ahmedabad Neelkanth Society Nuisance: Residents vs PG Owners Sparks Police Action

There was a verbal dispute between locals and paying guests’ owners in Neelkanth Society on Anandnagar Road, Ahmedabad. The decision to issue passes to paying guests who reside in the society was taken by the residents. Locals also raised objections to some antisocial behaviors exhibited by those residing in PGs during late hours. From May 1st onwards, all paying guests will be restricted in the society, including the appeal to restrict PGs made by local corporator Amit Thakkar and others from Vejalpur.

Intense Dispute Between Residents and PG Owners

Vice-chairman of Neelkanth Society, Anandnagar Road, Niravbhai Shah, in conversation with Divya Bhaskar, revealed that out of 174 flats in our society, 80 are occupied by paying guests. Over the past four years, PG culture has thrived, but the nuisance caused by residents of PGs has increased significantly. Drinking, smoking, and late-night disturbances by the PG residents have escalated the tensions in the society, leading to requests for police verification and rental agreements. Yesterday, the dispute became intense, and they refused to cooperate. The Anandnagar police were also summoned.

Decision to Completely Ban PGs from May 1st

It has been announced that due to the increasing disturbances caused by PG residents, the society has decided to issue passes only to those who live here. Each person will be allowed to bring in a maximum of 100 visitors, granting access exclusively to society residents. PG residents often disturb each other from late evening till early morning. Due to such behaviors and disturbances, the society has decided to halt new admissions. Only five people are allowed per flat after police verification, rental agreements, and obtaining permission. However, now from May 1st, all paying guests will be completely banned from the society.

Locals May Write to Central Home Minister

In the matter of banning PGs due to nuisances caused by them, Vejalpur’s BJP MLA Amit Thakkar and BJP corporators will jointly appeal and, if necessary, write a letter to the Central Home Minister Amit Shah. Currently, a complaint has also been lodged at the Anandnagar Police Station regarding this matter. Residents of the society, due to the impact and increased trouble on their children caused by the PGs, have decided to ban PGs due to their disturbances.
