Surat’s Vedic Holi: 80 Tons of Gau Kasht Sticks Made from Cow Dung Advance Booking Across 1000+ Locations

There is a noticeable awakening among the people towards environmental conservation, even during festivals. As the festival of Holi approaches, there is a rising craze among the locals for celebrating Vedic Holi Dahan. In the city, there is an increasing demand for Gau Kasht, made from cow dung, instead of wood, for the Holi bonfire. 

This year, in Surat, Vedic Holi celebrations will spread across more than a thousand locations. As a result, there has been an advance booking of 80 tons (80,000 kilograms) of Gau Kasht. Interestingly, despite being made from cow dung, this Gau Kasht is not only eco-friendly but also cost-effective compared to wood.

Innovative Use of Cow Dung Machine in Surat’s Panjarapole

This year, Surat’s Panjarapole is preparing 80 tons of Gau Kasht specifically made from a machine. Gau Kasht, crafted using an advanced machine, utilizes cow dung collected from the goshalas and incorporates the latest technology in waste management. 

It’s a common sight during Holi to witness the use of wood for the bonfire, contributing to the depletion of trees. However, in Vedic Holi celebrations, there’s a shift towards using Gau Kasht instead of wood, emphasizing the traditional way of celebrating the festival while promoting eco-friendly practices.

Assistance for Cows at Panjarapole Increases with Revenue

Furthermore, with this revenue, assistance for the cows at Panjarapole will also increase. Apart from the rescued and sheltered cows at Panjarapole, around 10,000 more cows will contribute to the production of 80 tons of Gau Kasht made from cow dung using the advanced machine. 

This year, various societies in Surat have joined hands, and Vedic Holi celebrations will spread across more than 1000 locations. For this purpose, people have also made bookings for Gau-Stick in various cow shelters.

Gau Stick Production Increased Over the Last Three Years

Atulbhai Vora, the General Manager of Panjarapole, revealed that for the past 6 months, they have been making Gau Sticks from cow dung, with its inception dating back to the last 3 years. Initially producing around 35 to 40 tons in the first year, the production escalated to over 60 tons the following year. 

This year, the production has surged even further, reaching 70 tons or more. The increasing awareness among the people has significantly boosted the demand for Gau Sticks.

Environmental Benefits of Vedic Holi: Purifying the Environment

It has been emphasized that by burning Gau Kasht in Vedic Holi, not only does it adhere to traditional practices but also contributes to environmental purity. Utilizing sticks made from cow dung collected from cow shelters aids in eliminating viruses present in the environment. 

Priced at 25 rupees per kilogram, Gau Sticks are not only cost-effective compared to wood but also promote environmental sustainability. Furthermore, by using these sticks, we can contribute to the conservation of trees and extend assistance to cows.
