In cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot, activists of the ABVP staged vehement demonstrations. Students raised slogans against the Mamata Banerjee-led government, condemning its policies and actions.
Meanwhile, in a disturbing turn of events, the residence of West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was vandalized, prompting stern actions from authorities. In Ahmedabad, police were deployed to quell potential unrest, while clashes ensued between police and ABVP activists in Vadodara. The echoes of unrest in West Bengal resonate strongly in Gujarat, as citizens and activists raise their voices against violence and injustice.
ABVP Protests Outside Gujarat University; Violence Erupts
Amidst the ongoing violence incidents instigated by TMC leaders in West Bengal, ABVP protests have erupted at various locations across the country. In Ahmedabad, near Gujarat University, ABVP members staged protests against the violence. Amidst the protests, people gathered under the banner of Justice For Sandeshkali.
However, amidst the chaos, some activists suddenly brought a statue and placed it in the middle of the road, dousing it with petrol and setting it on fire. The flames quickly spread, causing panic in the area. Several police officers attempted to extinguish the fire, while some ABVP activists rekindled the flames by pouring more petrol.
Police Officer Injured While Extinguishing Fire
During the commotion, a police officer stationed at the Gujarat University Police Station was injured. Despite attempts by bystanders to extinguish the fire on the officer’s clothes, the flames reached the officer’s face and neck. Consequently, the officer was rushed to the hospital in a police vehicle for immediate medical attention.
Following the incident, the police have initiated an investigation and are taking measures to apprehend those responsible for the violence. Some suspects involved in the violence have been identified and are being pursued for further legal action by the authorities.
Clash Between Activists and Police in Vadodara
ABVP staged a protest in front of the main building of the Commerce Faculty at MS University in Vadodara city. Students raised slogans against the Mamata Banerjee-led government and denounced her policies. Subsequently, a statue was vandalized, and the incident escalated when the police intervened.
The situation caused a traffic jam on Main Road. Upon receiving information, Sayajigunj police rushed to the scene and detained three ABVP activists. Tensions escalated, leading to a confrontation between the activists and the police.
In the Minds of Activists: Anti-National Activities
ABVP activists alleged that Mamata Banerjee’s government has been orchestrating anti-national activities, claiming that within her administration, there are endeavors to incite people against the nation. They questioned how West Bengal’s development could progress under such circumstances.
They highlighted concerns about the women’s movement, suggesting that initiatives under the guise of women’s empowerment could potentially perpetrate violence against men. They expressed worries about the safety of women, fearing that incidents of misconduct might occur under the pretext of women’s rights. They called for a reevaluation of strategies to ensure the welfare and safety of all citizens, particularly women.
Mamata is Unresponsive and Unheard: Nehal Thanki
Nehal Thanki, the Gujarat Provincial Joint Minister of ABVP, expressed that a female representative from West Bengal has mentioned that West Bengal worships Maa Durga’s power. However, despite such reverence, numerous atrocities against women persist in West Bengal, which is disgraceful for the country. Thakkar stated that Mamata Banerjee seems to be blindfolded and oblivious, maintaining a demeanor of unresponsiveness and inattention towards the situation.
“Ensuring Justice for Women”
It has been emphasized further that Mamata Banerjee’s administration has failed to address the plight of women, leading ABVP to organize nationwide protests in support of women’s dignity. Those who perpetrate violence against women should face strict consequences, and our demand is resolute in this regard. We will submit petitions to the Collector and even to the President to expedite justice for women. Our movement will continue until justice is served to these women who have been denied it thus far.
TMC Workers Committing Misdeeds Against Women”: Himanshu Pathak
Himanshu Pathak, the president of ABVP at MS University, stated that today we protested against the Mamata Banerjee government. While the governor was here, news surfaced that atrocities were being committed against women. Workers of TMC are taking sisters to their offices and engaging in misconduct with them.
“Investigation by Central Agencies Needed”
It has been further emphasized that our demand is for the central agencies to investigate the ongoing atrocities against women. A helpline number will be announced for those women who have faced misconduct, and their protection will also be the concern of the central government. Therefore, Mamata commits atrocities against women alone, and it needs to be stopped.
Protest Against Statue Vandalism at Gujarat University Main Gate
A significant number of students gathered at the main gate of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University to protest against the vandalism of statues. With the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, attempts are being made to surround Mamata Banerjee’s government on the issue of intolerance, primarily in West Bengal by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Serious allegations of sexual harassment against women have been leveled by Mamata Banerjee’s leaders.
This matter was also taken up in court to challenge the credibility of the Mamata government. Opposition parties have initiated protests to encircle Mamata Banerjee’s government. This protest is not only limited to West Bengal but also extends across various states where the Bharatiya Janata Party and its students are demonstrating against Mamata’s government. The vandalism of Mamata Banerjee’s statue occurred specifically at the university gate.
Denunciation of Gender Violence: Critique by Kriti Singh
Members of ABVP have stated that even under Mamata Banerjee’s rule, women in their own state cannot be provided security. The manner in which women are being subjected to sexual violence under the leadership of their own politicians is reprehensible. We vehemently condemn such actions.
The actions taken by Mamata Banerjee’s administration are not appropriate. The delay in apprehending her leaders is concerning. The encouragement given to leaders to perpetrate youth sexual violence under their governance is deplorable. We are denouncing such actions in the strongest terms possible.
