HC Rejects Kejriwal-Sanjay Singh Plea: PM’s Degree Case Summons Upheld
The case of demanding the degree of the Prime Minister from Gujarat University was filed against Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, and AAP leader Sanjay Singh. Both had filed a petition in the Metropolitan Court which was dismissed. Subsequently, they approached the Sessions Court, seeking the dismissal of the summons and to stay the proceedings. However, the Sessions Court directed them to approach the High Court and filed the application for dismissal of the summons and to stay the proceedings. Today, the Gujarat High Court has rejected Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh’s plea. Now the trial will proceed in the Metropolitan Court, and Arvind Kejriwal will have to appear.
Kejriwal and Singh primarily sought the dismissal of the summons and to stay the proceedings through their application. However, if the High Court approves this application, the trial in the Metropolitan Court will be canceled.
In the Gujarat University fake degree case, the Ahmedabad Metropolitan Court has issued summons against Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh. Subsequently, the university’s lawyer demanded warrants for the appearance of both accused, who did not attend the court. Seeking relief, both accused went to the Sessions Court, High Court, and even the Supreme Court, but did not find relief. However, the Supreme Court directed the Gujarat High Court to decide on this case. Consequently, the Gujarat High Court, after hearing both sides, instructed the City Civil Court to decide on Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh’s revision plea within 10 days.
Both leaders had approached the High Court to cancel the summons of the Metropolitan Court. After resolving the matter, the Ahmedabad City Civil Court dismissed the revision plea of Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh. Consequently, Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh had now approached the High Court to cancel the summons of the Metropolitan Court.
Gujarat University Approached by Both Leaders
Gujarat High Court had announced a complete halt to the case regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s degree on March 31, 2023, and informed the complainant that the degree would not be disclosed. Subsequently, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a press conference on April 1, 2023, uttering derogatory words regarding the Prime Minister’s degree. This statement was also posted on his Twitter handle. On the following day, April 2, Sanjay Singh also held a press conference regarding the Prime Minister’s degree and detailed the matter on his Twitter handle. The press conferences and tweets mentioned Gujarat University. The University’s Registrar, Dr. Piyush Patel, had complained to the Metropolitan Court under Indian Penal Code 500 through Gujarat University.
Kejriwal Filed a Review Petition
The degree of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not available on the Gujarat University website. Concerning this, Arvind Kejriwal filed a review petition on March 31, 2023, in Gujarat High Court regarding the announcement of the verdict.
