Padma Awards Announcement: Dr. Tejas Patel among 17 Padma Bhushan, Yajdi Italy, Jagadish Trivedi among 110 Padma Shri, Vijayanti Mala among 5 Padma Vibhushan
On the eve of Republic Day, Padma awards were announced on Thursday. Among them, 17 Padma Bhushan awards were given, including renowned doctors Tejas Patel from Gujarat, birthplace sculptor Kundan Vyas, Mithun Chakraborty, Ram, Usha Uthup, and others, as well as Jagdish Trivedi, who donated millions earned through his show to charity, and 110 Padma Shri awards including actress Vijayanti Mala, Venkaiya Nayudu, and five individuals were awarded Padma Vibhushan.
Padma Awards for Unsung Heroes
Padma Shri awards are being given to those who were previously unknown until now. Among them are the country’s first female Mahavat Parvati Barua and Jagdishwar Yadav, who are residents of Assam. Apart from them, there are many big names including Charvi Murmu, Soman, Sarveshwar, Sangam, etc.
Details of Padma Awardees
There are 30 women among the Padma award winners. Among them, there are also 8 individuals from the Foreign/NRI/PIO/OCI category. There are 9 celebrities who will be posthumously awarded. Before this, on January 23, the government had announced to award the Bharat Ratna to former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur.
Recognition for Dr. Yajdi Italia
Dr. Yajdi Italia received the Padma Shri award for his contribution to the sickle cell anemia control program. He has worked on many ICMR research projects under the Indo-US NBS project. Sickle cell anemia is a hereditary disease found among tribals, which occurs due to a defect in the hemoglobin molecule. As a result, there is physical and mental suffering.
Mention of Jagdish Trivedi
Renowned Gujarati comedian Jagdish Trivedi has been honored with the Padma Shri award. He has donated millions earned through various shows to charity. Prime Minister Modi recently mentioned him in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program and praised his social work.
Parvati Barua
Parvati Barua, associated with the royal family of Gauripur in Assam, had a special love for animals since childhood, especially elephants. Her love for animals became the focus of her life, and she dedicated her entire life to their service. She is also a member of the Asian Elephant Specialist Group, IUCN. Many documentaries have been made on her life. She is also very active in saving elephants.
Chammi Murmu
Padma Shri awardee Chammi Murmu has empowered 28,000 women for self-employment in 28 years. Chammi Murmu has also been honored with the Nari Shakti Award. She was honored at a program organized at the Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Ram Nath Kovind on International Women’s Day in 2019.
Jagdishwar Yadav
Jagdishwar Yadav, a tribal welfare worker from Jashpur, Chhattisgarh, will be honored with the Padma Shri for his social work (Tribal PVTG). He has dedicated his life to the upliftment of the people affected by displacement due to the construction of dams.
Dukhu Majhi
Dukhu Majhi, an indigenous traditional herbalist from Purulia, West Bengal, will be awarded the Padma Shri in the field of medicine (Ayurvedic traditional medicine). He has been providing cheap healthcare to villagers for more than five decades. He started serving needy people at the age of 15.

Announcement of 106 Padma Awards last year
In 2023, the President approved 106 Padma awards, including 6 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan, and 91 Padma Shri. Nineteen women were awarded Padma honors. Seven people have been selected for the posthumous honor. The Padma award is one of the highest civilian honors in the country and is awarded in three categories – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.
