Akasa Air Expands Fleet with Order for 150 Boeing Aircraft

Budget airline Akasa Air has placed an order for 150 narrowbody aircraft from Boeing, aiming to enhance both its domestic and international operations. The order comprises a mix of 737 MAX 10 and 737 MAX 8-200 jets.

Details regarding the inclusion of the MAX 9 version in Akasa’s order have not been disclosed. Alaska Airlines recently grounded MAX 9 aircraft following a cabin panel blowout incident.

Vinay Dubey, Founder and CEO of Akasa Air, stated that this substantial and historic aircraft order positions Akasa to be among the top 30 airlines globally by the end of the decade. The new additions will strengthen our operational capabilities, facilitating the commencement of international operations.

The total order, which began in 2021 with an initial purchase of 72 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, expanded in June 2023 with an additional order for 4 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. With the latest order in January 2024, Akasa Air’s total order now reaches 226 aircraft.

Currently operating with a fleet of 22 aircraft, the airline anticipates the delivery of a total of 204 aircraft over the next eight years. Akasa Air inaugurated its first commercial flight from Mumbai to Ahmedabad on August 7, 2022.
